Gruppo SIGLA takes part in IEEE International Conference

Gruppo SIGLA – a company of Relatech Group – takes part in IEEE International Conference on E-health Networking, Application & Services, held in Genoa from 17 to 19 October. The event aims at bringing together interested parties (universities, research centers, industries and stakeholders) from around the world working in the healthcare field to exchange opinions, discuss brand-new ideas, developing innovative and emerging solutions, and establishing new collaborations.

As part of the interventions, Gruppo SIGLA presented the Realter biomedical project - Augmented Reality Device dedicated to the reproduction of visual disorders to support visual rehabilitation. Realter is proposed as a highly innovative project in the development of technological aids to support the independence of people with sensory, motor and cognitive disabilities, that aims to create a wearable device based on technologies derived from those for virtual and augmented reality to allow people involved in rehabilitation processes to see the real world "through the eyes" of people. visually impaired and to develop personalized rehabilitation strategies. With this tool it will be possible to improve rehabilitation procedures and, consequently, the ability of visually impaired people to orient themselves in space and interact with objects and people.

The main characteristics of the device can be summarized as follows:

  • Near real-time: ato update stimulations quickly is critical for user comfort and for the “gaze-contingent” presentation of visual alterations;
  • Gaze-contingency: any image processing effects follow the user's current gaze;
  • Portable: to use the device in real-world environments, such as a user's home or classroom;
  • Support AR: to apply simulations to live content recorded by external cameras;
  • Patient-data oriented/driven: any simulation is modifiable and adaptable;
  • Quantitative: to provide quantitative feedback on the functional performance of the subject.

The software components that Realter uses are:

  • Display Module: web application for the complete management of the simulator and data collection;
  • Backend Module: to manage access to the internal database;
  • Identity Provider Module: to manage authentication and authorization of applications;
  • Repository Module: to collect data;
  • Data Analytics Engine Module: to provide users with aggregated data.

The project, coordinated by Ggallery, in collaboration with ETT, Gruppo SIGLA and FOS Greentech, sees the participation, through partnership agreements, of IIT, the University of Genoa (DIBRIS) and the Chiossone Institute.
