CitySCAPE Project’s Kick-Off Meeting

A new era regarding the safety of the multimodal transport ecosystem begins with the EU Project CitySCAPE!

The traditional security controls and security assurance arguments are becoming increasingly inefficient of supporting the emerging needs and applications of the interconnecting transport systems, allowing threats and security incidents to disturb all dimensions of transportation. CitySCAPE is a project funded by the EU’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, which consists of 16 partners from 6 European countries, united in their vision to cover the cybersecurity needs of the multimodal transportation.

“CitySCAPE introduces innovative risk analysis techniques and manages a number of software solutions in order to realize an interoperable toolkit that seamlessly integrates to any multimodal transport system” , said Dr. Angelos Amditis, CitySCAPE Project Coordinator and Research Director at the Institute of Communications and Computer Systems.

More specifically, the CitySCAPE software toolkit will:

  • Detect suspicious traffic-data values and identify persistent threats
  • Evaluate an attack's impact in both technical and financial terms
  • Combine external knowledge and internally-observed activities to enhance the predictability of zero- day attacks
  • Instantiate a networked overlay to circulate informative notifications to CERT/CSIRT authorities and support their interplay.

"UA key point of the CitySCAPE solution is that the findings deriving from its pilots will steer training sessions of both expert and non-expert audience and shape the standardization contribution to security (labelling) protocols”, Dr Amditis added.

The CitySCAPE solution will be tested in two use-cases, involving ticketing applications, cyber-fraud and location data, in order to showcase its effectiveness. The two CitySCAPE pilots will take place in the regional transport system of Tallinn, Estonia and Genoa, Italy.

CitySCAPE project’s Kick-Off Meeting will be officially launched on 17th-18th September 2020 and it will be held virtually due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In CitySCAPE, GruppoSIGLA Srl collaborates with partners for the design and the implementation of system architecture and cyber-security features. The company leads a Work Package and contributes, among other, in particular to the execution of Genova (Italy) pilot activities.
